Preparation for Worship
We worship this third Sunday of Easter with planet Earth. We join the Psalmists and rejoice with Earth. We sing with Earth, our planet home spinning through space. We celebrate Earth as a sacred place, a sanctuary filled with God’s presence.

Prelude Easter Pastorale Leon Boëllmann
Call to Worship
Planet Earth, spinning silently through space:
Celebrate your beauty and your grace, your special place in our solar system.
Planet Earth, gleaming green and blue:
Rejoice in your ocean currents as they dance and swirl with hope.
Planet Earth, pulsing with life:
Join in praise with all your fauna and flora as they sing songs to the Lord.
Planet Earth, enveloped in the breath of God:
Bless all your creatures this day with the life-giving breath of God.
Planet Earth, our precious, fragile home:
Celebrate, with all your children, God’s presence in our planet home.
We celebrate the song of our planet!
Sing! Planet Earth! Sing!
*Hymn #245 Christ the Lord is Risen Today! Llanfair
Call to Confession
Almighty God, your word of creation caused the water to be filled with many kinds of
living beings and the air to be filled with birds. We rejoice in the richness of your
creation, and we pray for your wisdom for all life on this earth, that we may wisely
manage and not destroy what you have made for us and for our descendants.
Almighty God, hear us now as we confess our sins against God and our neighbor.
Prayer of Confession
Good and gracious God, we are creatures of dust, ignorant of your revelation,
misunderstanding your life, death, and resurrection among us, needing forgiveness.
We repent of our failure to give as you have given to us. We beg your mercy for our
fallen world. We seek your Word, that we may live with the faith of Jesus. Be our solace
in this life and always. We ask this as your own children, holy and incomplete. Forgive
us and lead us, Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Friends, hear and believe the good news of the gospel:
In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! Thanks be to God!
Passing of Peace
The peace of Christ be with you.
And also with you.
+ PROCLAIM THE WORD +
Sacred Space for Children with Song Mary Donald
Canticle of the Sun by Marty Haugen text:
The heavens are telling the glory of God, and all creation is shouting for joy.
Come, dance in the forest, come, play in the field and sing, sing to the glory of the Lord.
Children’s Recessional Mfurahini Haleluya
Prayer for Illumination
God, our Creator, as we reflect on the mystery of our fragile planet, we celebrate the
wonders of Earth as our home. Help us to discern how we have polluted our planet and
to empathize with the groaning of creation beneath us. Teach us to sense the presence of God pulsing through Earth as a living green blue sanctuary. Teach us to love Earth as
our home. In the name of Christ, the Word of God, who is the creative impulse in all
Psalm Psalm 98
Gospel Luke 24:13-35
Anthem When Seed Falls on Good Soil Frederick Jackisch
Derek Dahlke, tenor solo
When seed falls on good soil, it’s born through quiet toil,
where soil receives, the earth conceives the blade, a stem, the fruit, the leaves.
Good soil, oh, mother earth, the womb, where seed takes birth.
God’s Word in Christ is seed; good soil its urgent need;
for it must find in humankind a fertile soil in heart and mind.
That we good soil may be. Begin, O Lord, with me!
Homily Reverend Winckler

Call to Commitment and Offering
Offertory I Got Me Flowers Ralph Vaughan Williams
Derek Dahlke, tenor solo
I got me flowers to strew thy way; I got me boughs off many a tree:
but thou wast up by break of day, and brought'st thy sweets along with thee.
The Sun arising in the East, though we give light, and the East perfume;
if they should offer to contest, with thy arising, they presume.
Can there be any day but this, though many suns to shine endeavour?
We count three hundred, but we miss. There is but one, and that one ever.
- George Herbert
