The Order for Worship

4th Sunday of Easter

May 3, 2020

Prelude                                         An Easter Meditation                                   Henri Mulet

Call to Worship

The Shepherd calls us by name and leads us to abundant life.

We hear your voice and hasten to follow.

The Shepherd prepares a table and lavishly pours out grace.

We hear your invitation and take our place at the feast.

The Shepherd gathers us in and welcomes us to the house of the Lord.

We hear your call and give you praise.

*Hymn #802                     The King of Love My Shepherd Is                        St. Columba

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

We have gone astray, O Shepherd. You call us to follow, and we hear your voice.
Yet, we choose to heed other voices- voices that promise status and comfort and a
carefree life. But such promises are empty and that life does not satisfy.

Call to us again, O Shepherd. Summon us onto right paths to pursue justice in
your name, to seek after the well-being of all. Lead us to the table you prepare
for us- where rivals share both bread and blessings and discover there is enough
   for all.

Assurance of Pardon

Passing of Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

   And also with you.

Prayer for Illumination

Scripture                                                                                                              Acts 2: 42-47

Anthem                                                O Paschal Feast                                      Claude Means

Derek Dahlke and Lori Hoffman, soloists

O Paschal Feast, what joy is thine! We praise, dear Lord, Thy name divine.

For Thou hast triumphed o'er the tomb; no more we need to dread its gloom.

O Paschal Lamb, God's holy Son, through whom redemption now is won,

Thou givest saving strength indeed in all our conflicts, all our need.

   As Thou didst rise on Easter Day, help us to rise from sin, we pray;

and at the end of earthly strife raise us, O Lord, to endless life.

Call to Commitment and Offering

Offertory                                      God Loved the World                          Melchior Vulpius

                                                                                                       Derek Dahlke, tenor solo

God loved the world so that he gave His only Son, the lost to save,
that all who would in him believe should everlasting life receive.

Be of good cheer, for God’s own Son forgives all sins which you have done,
and justified by Jesus’ blood, your Baptism grants the highest good.

   Christ Jesus is the ground of faith, who was made flesh and suffered death;
all who confide in Christ alone are built on this chief cornerstone.

-translated by August Crull from the 1791 Gesangbuch

*Easter Doxology                                                                                  Lasst Uns Erfreuen

   Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
praise God, all creatures here below: Alleluia! Alleluia!

Praise God, the source of all our gifts!

Praise Jesus Christ, whose power uplifts!

Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit, Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

The Words of Institution

The Lord’s Prayer

   Our Father in heaven,

     hallowed be your name,

     your kingdom come,

     your will be done,

     on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

   Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial

     and deliver us from evil.

   For the kingdom, the power,

     and the glory are yours
