2008-2009 CONCERT SERIES

December 7, 4 pm ADVENT VESPERS

A service of readings and hymns with choral, handbell, and organ music for the Advent season.

January 25, 4 pm SAINT LOUIS SYMPHONY CONCERT

A small ensemble from the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra presents an informal program of familiar and curious works. An informal question and answer session with the musicians follows the program.

February 15, 4 pm ORGAN RECITAL BY ANDREW PETERS

Second Church’s Pastoral Musician plays a varied program of organ works including the entire William Tell Overture!

March 8, 4 pm THE GREENVILLE COLLEGE CHOIR

Dr. Jeffrey Wilson directs this choir in a varied and exciting program from Greenville College in Illinois.

April 19, 4 pm ALL HADYN PROGRAM

The Second Church Choir, soloists, and orchestra present Franz Joseph Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and Symphony 92 in G Major. Additional singers are welcome to join the choir for this concert. Contact the music office for the rehearsal schedule and further information.

September 28, 4 pm VAUGHAN WILLIAMS FESTIVAL

The choirs of Second Presbyterian Church and Christ Church Cathedral present this festival honoring the 50th anniversary of the death of English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. Co-sponsored with the St. Louis Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

October 26, 4 pm SILENT MOVIE- “THE CAT & THE CANARY”

A decaying mansion and stormy night set the stage in this silent film from 1927. Andrew Peters provides organ accompaniment for this scary (yet humorous) “old dark house” mystery.

November 9, 4 pm REFLECTIONS ON TIFFANY WINDOWS

Terree Rowbottom, Mezzo Soprano, Andrew Peters, organist, and the Second Church Choir present music based on the scriptures used in the Sanctuary’s Tiffany and Frei Stained Glass Windows. Music includes pieces by Burleigh, Gounod, Handel, Mendelssohn, Messiaen, and others.

Second Presbyterian Church presents occasional concerts and special services as part of its musical outreach to the community. These concerts and services are presented free of charge.

The Music Program of Second Presbyterian Church is generously supported by the Fred A. and Leota Couts Music Endowment Fund.
