MCU-City

Metropolitan Congregations United (MCU)is St. Louis' premier social justice organization, working through congregations to improve the welfare of our neighbors. Across the city we are people of different faiths who strive to live out God's call for justice. At Second Presbyterian Church, we are a committee of active members working to focus the work of our church on important social justice matters. Our tie to MCU is through its north-city cluster, 22 congregations strong, known as Congregations Allied for Community Improvement (CACI).

We believe God's call begins in our congregation's neighborhood (our Holy Ground) and extends to our entire region and beyond. We also believe that throughout our city and our larger community, our destinies are intertwined.

Because we know that all children of God deserve a clean and safe place to live, an excellent education, healthcare, and jobs that pay a living wage, we take on issues such as housing, healthcare, education, and workforce development. Through public meetings, we provide a space for all St. Louisans to rise up and enact their rights as citizens.

At the annual Public Action Meeting local elected officials, business leaders and people living in our neighborhoods address important justice issues such as:

• Economic Redevelopment in St. Louis' north side
• Drop-out Prevention – Keep our kids in school through graduation
• Job Equity for minority workers and businesses – and job training for our underemployed workers
